Following a brief stint as a pharmaceutical patent litigator, Sohaib began a sole practice focused on cryptocurrency and blockchain in September 2022. Since then, Sohaib’s practice has focused primarily on complex disputes at the intersection of blockchain technology and finance.
Sohaib is the first lawyer in Canada to serve Defendants by way of a non-fungible token (NFT) airdrop, is the author of the first legal book in the world focused on NFTs, and is a regular contributor to Lexis Nexis Practice Notes dealing specifically with emerging issues related to blockchain technology and smart contracts.
Sohaib frequently advises technology start-ups and technology companies on emerging business structures including decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), intellectual property (IP) matters, and compliance issues associated with token launches (ICOs) and whitepapers.
Desormeaux v. Oloko, 2026 ONSC 162 – Successfully obtained leave to bring a derivative action on behalf of a Bitcoin ATM company pursuant s. 239 of the Canada Business Corporations Act, R.S.C. 1985, c. C-44.
Dinca et. al. v. Huobi Global Limited et. al, 2025 (Unreported) – Successfully obtained a Norwich Order for third party production against eighteen (18) Respondents in a complex cryptocurrency pig-butchering fraud case.
Chafe v. Munro et. al – 2025 ONSC 2712 – Represented the CEO of a blockchain development company in a corporate dispute over the interpretation of a defaulting shareholder provision within the company’s shareholder agreement.
McRae-Yu v. Profitly Incorporated et. al, 2023 (Unreported), 2024 ONSC 1593 & 2024 ONSC 5615 – Successfully obtained an order for substituted service allowing service on an unknown “John Doe” Defendant via a Non-Fungible Token (“NFT”) airdrop into their cryptocurrency wallet. Successfully brought & resisted a motion to set aside a Mareva Injunction in a prospective class action involving the sale of “Boneheads” NFTs. Successfully resisted a motion for dismissal for delay pursuant to s. 29.1 of the Class Proceedings Act, 1992, S.O. 1992, c. 6.
